Workshops

See what's really going on.

Mental Health Awareness

Workshop

A grounded look at what's actually happening for young people, including what gets misread as attitude, disengagement, or defiance. We look at emotional pain, the negativity bias, and how the assumptions we carry shape what we see in the room. Evidence-based with Australian research and focused on practicality.

Negativity bias · Australian research

Stay calm when others dysregulate.

Dealing With Escalations

Workshop

How to respond in moments that feel uncontrollable, and why most escalations are predictable when you know what to look for. We cover which behaviours are communication, how to stay regulated when a young person isn't, and what to avoid when the instinct is to fix, solve or reassure.

Behaviour as communication · Staying regulated

Connect before you correct.

Strengths-Based Connection

Workshop

Connection before correction, what it actually looks like in practice. We explore how deficit-focused thinking changes what you notice, how to see a young person in three dimensions rather than two, and how to activate what's already working rather than leading with what isn't. Skills such as empathic highlights and reflective listening are drawn upon.

Empathic highlights · Reflective listening

Say it so they lean in.

Empowered Communication

Workshop

How the language you use shapes whether a young person leans in or checks out. We look at how the brain processes instruction, the hidden cost of prohibition language, and how to frame your communication so it activates curiosity rather than resistance, even with disengaged young people. Psychological concepts of priming and motivational interviewing are provided as skills.

The approach

Theory only goes so far.

Dot Arc Labs training is designed to be immediately applicable. Every session prioritises tools participants can use the moment they walk out the door.

Led by psychologist Sam Weily, each program is built around the actual needs of the people doing the work, co-designed where possible and honest about how hard the work can be.

01
Skills-first design

Participants leave with tools they can put to use straight away.

02
Strengths-based lens

We build from what's already working, for people, teams, and organisations.

03
Contextually grounded

Adapted to the specific sector, population, and team, never pulled off the shelf.

04
Trauma-informed throughout

A trauma-informed lens runs through everything: escalation, culture, communication.

05
Psychologically sound

Built on current psychological research and evidence, not recycled tropes.
